Adidas America President Discusses Plans for Company.

Mar. 25--The Adidas America welcome mat for Ross McMullin should have come with a warning: "Watch your step -- tough times ahead."

The Canadian thrust himself into a new job in a fiercely competitive industry more than a year and a half ago. As Adidas America president, he received a mandate from the brass at German parent company Adidas-Salomon: revive sales in the United States, the world's largest market for athletic shoes, apparel and equipment.

The company's U.S. sales grew rapidly during the mid-1990s but stagnated late in the decade in an industrywide downturn that also hurt Nike and other rivals.
