Thailand Customs Department Defends Price Assessments.

Mar. 27--The Customs Department says it has fulfilled its obligations under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (Gatt) in assessing prices of imported goods.
Manit Witayatem, the department's director-general, was responding to complaints by European Union representatives (EU), who visited him recently to discuss perceived inconsistencies.
Mr Manit said one of the cases that prompted the EU complaint involved a European automaker that had quoted a specific unit price for a car it exported to Thailand.
However, the Customs Department deemed the quoted price a "relationship" price that was too low for valuation purposes.
