Security Breach at Tampa, Fla., Airport Affects Passengers to Memphis, Tenn.

Apr. 3--Tuesday morning, Northwest Airlines flight 879 arrived in Memphis from Tampa more than three hours late because of a security breach at Tampa International Airport.

At 5:20 a.m., a man went through a security checkpoint in Airside A, one of the Tampa airport's four terminals, and a security screener identified what was believed to be a gun and stopped the X-ray machine conveyor belt. A supervisor was alerted and then notified law enforcement, said Christopher White, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

Before law enforcement arrived, the man reached into the machine, retrieved his bag and fled. Videotape later showed the same man...
