Demand Increases for Air-Monitoring Technology Developed in Kansas City, Mo.

Apr. 4--Scattered around the perimeter of Yankee Stadium during the World Series last fall, suitcase-size air monitors were set up to look for biological threats in the Big Apple.

In the following months, a Humvee with a hump on top probably did the same thing on the battlefields of Afghanistan. Whether that vehicle actually was there checking for biological attacks is one of those "classified" things the Defense Department says it just doesn't talk about.

And in at least one U.S. corporate headquarters -- the company doesn't want to be named -- devices attached to the ventilation system monitor for bacteria, airborne viruses and potential biological threats....
