Attack Helicopter's Role in Afghan War Lauded by Military in Mesa, Ariz., Area.

Apr. 4--Top U.S. Army brass lauded the latest combat performance of the Apache attack helicopter during a ceremony this week marking five years of production of an advanced model at Boeing's Mesa, Ariz., factory. The event gave Army officials a chance to thank Boeing employees and to describe the helicopter's value during Operation Anaconda, which restored the gunship's fighting reputation after a weak performance in Kosovo in 1999.

Apaches were credited with saving the lives of many American troopers who were brought into the Shah-e-Kot Valley of eastern Afghanistan in the opening hours of the operation, said Col. Ralph Pallotta, Apache project manager at Fort Rucker, Ala....
