Port May Seize Land Leased to Florida East Coast Railroad.

Apr. 6--For the third time in two years, Port Everglades is moving to seize back part of the controversial 1997 Swerdlow land purchase after accusing developers of stalling on promised construction work.
Port administrators have declared the Florida East Coast Railroad in default of its lease and now could reclaim up to 18 acres of the 97 acres that the county bought from businessman Michael Swerdlow and then leased out for development.
The land should now be home to three 100,000-square-foot warehouses to serve port business, but only one 85,000-square-foot building has been constructed. The railroad is disputing the port's move and said it had permission...
