American Water Works Vows Fight if Lexington, Ky., Wants to Buy Subsidiary.

Apr. 10--The president of American Water Works says his company will not negotiate the sale of its Lexington subsidiary to the city.
"That means the only way Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government could own Lexington's water system is through a long and costly legal action," J. James Barr wrote in a letter to Mayor Pam Miller yesterday.
Any attempt by the city to use the courts to take the company will be fought there and "in the court of public opinion," Barr warned.
The council decided two weeks ago to look into buying Kentucky-American Water Co. while its parent, New Jersey-based American Water Works, is being acquired by RWE AG of Germany....
