Apr. 17--The Orlando Sentinel's coverage of NASCAR safety has been honored by The Associated Press Sports Editors.

A report by Ed Hinton, Henry Pierson Curtis and Jim Leusner was awarded first place for news stories in APSE's largest circulation category (more than 250,000 daily circulation). The report detailed emergency medical technician Tommy Propst's recollections of whether stock-car driver Dale Earnhardt's seat belt broke in the accident that killed him at the 2001 Daytona 500.
