CEO of Duke University Hospital to Leave for Long Island, N.Y., Post.

Apr. 19--DURHAM, N.C.--Michael Israel, the Duke University Hospital chief executive who helped build Duke University's medical arm into a regional health system, is stepping down to help run an 18-hospital health system in Long Island, N.Y.

Duke has appointed Dr. William Fulkerson Jr., Duke Hospital's chief medical officer and a noted specialist in pulmonary and cardiac care medicine, as the facility's new CEO. Fulkerson won't inherit Israel's broader role as a vice president of Duke's health system.

Fulkerson, a nearly 20-year Duke veteran, will have a big job. Duke, like all hospitals, has a daily challenge to provide high-quality patient care...
