Hilmar Cheese Co. in California to Receive American Dream Award.

Apr. 23--Eighteen years ago, Bill Ahlem and 11 other dairy farmers thought building a cheese plant would guarantee a market for their milk.
It did that and a whole lot more. Their enterprise, the Hilmar Cheese Co., is now the largest single site for cheese production in the world.
"We had no idea that it would ever grow as quickly or as big as it has," said Ahlem, the company's vice president. "We just wanted to sell our milk."
That success has earned Ahlem the eighth Champions of the American Dream award, to be presented Wednesday evening at California State University, Stanislaus.
