Repairs to Britton, S.D.-Area Railroad Getting Closer.

May 1--A bid is expected to be awarded within a week for the repair of approximately 50 miles of railroad stretching from Aberdeen to the North Dakota border. Repairs are expected to be completed by the time farmers ship out their fall harvest, said Pat Beaudette of the South Dakota Office of Railroads. The tracks, idle for two years, serve the Amherst, Britton, Claremont and Kidder areas. Since the line shut down, farmers have been shipping grain by semi to more distant rail connections, adding to their costs.
Three companies submitted bids out of 17 to which documents were sent, Beaudette said.
