Loews Corp. Reports Quarterly Income for Tobacco Group.

May 10--Loews Corp. reported first-quarter net income yesterday of $18 million, or 45 cents a share, for its Carolina Group tracking stock, which reflects the economic performance of Lorillard Inc. of Greensboro, a subsidiary of Loews.

Net income for the quarter reflects two months of results, beginning with the issue of Carolina Group stock by Loews in February. Loews, a conglomerate based in New York, holds a 76.83 percent interest in the earnings of the Carolina Group, while the public holds the rest.

On a pro-forma basis, assuming Carolina Group had been in existence since Jan. 1, 2001, net income for the three months ended March 31 was $32 million, or 80...
