May 10--Smarts' Gary Baker didn't worry about competing in Networld Interop's distraction derby.

All around him, the Las Vegas Convention Center floor crackled with the collective cry of "Hey, look here." Amplified hawkers, schooled in techno lingo, shouted the applications alphabet to seated circles of conventioneers. IP! IT! LAN!

Throngs three deep ringed a trampoline at a booth for Sprint to watch Olympic athletes on skis spring into the rafters. Look! Up there! It's a split! A somersault!
