May 20--Dell Computer Corp. is calmly riding out the technology industry troubles that have roiled its competitors.
The company has avoided the losses facing other personal computer makers by maintaining a regimen of cost-cutting and responding to trends in demand with catlike reflexes.
Dell's technology isn't any more advanced than that of its rivals, who spend more on research and development. But analysts believe that Dell has agility and speed that its competitors lack.
Unless Dell ? based in Round Rock, near Austin ? strays from the ideas that first brought it to prominence, it will keep winning, analysts say.
