Las Vegas Odds Expert Calculates Rankings of Slot Machine Payouts.

May 19--Slot survey author and Las Vegas-based odds expert Michael Shackleford felt gambling consumers didn't have the information needed to decide which casinos offered the best video reel slot machines.
"In every other game the rules are disclosed and the odds are quantifiable," he said.
Shackleford obtained specifications to five different slot machines and wrote a computer program to let him determine which payout had been chosen on each.
Armed with printouts showing which symbol combinations exist on each reel, he and an associate spent about 400 hours visiting 70 Las Vegas-area casinos, determining which payout setting was used on each of the...
