May 23--Aquila Inc. eliminated 200 jobs Wednesday -- 50 more than the company said it would let go the day before -- as it scrambled to cut expenses to bolster its credit rating.
The additional 50 job cuts occurred at the company's corporate headquarters. No explanation was given as to why those job cuts weren't announced when the company said Tuesday that it would eliminate 150 positions in its trading and risk management operation.
The affected employees were told Wednesday. They were called to a room, given an envelope that included information on severance pay and then told to leave the building. Employees who kept their jobs also were allowed to leave...
