Thai Telecommunications Firm to Upgrade Network Quality, Add New Services.

May 23--Advanced Info Service Plc has announced plans to upgrade its cellular network quality to a "world-class" level.

The upgrading, operated by a new network quality management unit, would be the second phase of a two-part improvement programme, according to Lum Hon Fyne, AIS executive vice chairman and a representative of Singapore Telecom, a major shareholder.

The cost was not disclosed but it had been included in the yearly network investment plan, the company said.

Mr Lum said the second phase would focus on quality and preparing the network for new value-added services, including non-voice applications.
