Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Financial Institution Marks 50th Anniversary.

May 14--It seems like a good reason for a party, but BankAtlantic Chairman Alan Levan acknowledges that the 50-year anniversary of his Fort Lauderdale institution, being celebrated today, is a tough date to pinpoint.
BankAtlantic dates back to only 1987, although its predecessor firm, Atlantic Federal, was founded 50 years ago.
But in recent years BankAtlantic has acquired Levitt & Sons, the famed suburban development firm, which started in 1927.
It added Ryan, Beck & Co., which has been around 57 years.
And it is acquiring Gruntal & Co. Gruntal, like Ryan, Beck, is an investment firm -- and it dates back 120 years.
