AT&T to Increase Rates for Cable Internet Subscribers.

May 29--AT&T Broadband is raising rates almost 20 percent for the roughly 10 percent of its cable Internet subscribers nationwide who own their own modems.
The rate increase will not affect the approximately 90 percent of AT&T customers who pay $45.95 a month for unlimited high-speed Internet access over cable lines and lease modems from the company.
The flat rate for subscribers who do not lease a modem from the company will climb to $42.95 a month from $35.95 a month. Although the price hike goes into effect in June, subscribers will not see the increase until the start of next year since the company will give affected customers a $7-a-month credit on...
