Toyota Is Tops in Quality, J.D. Power Study Says.

May 31--WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--Toyota Motor Sales rode well ahead of its competition Thursday, as J.D. Power and Associates released its 2002 Initial Quality Study.

Between its flagship line and its upscale Lexus badge, the automaker snared nine of the 16 categories, including six of the seven truck divisions. Eleven models took home those honors, with the acclaimed Prius hybrid and Corolla splitting the compact segment and Lexus' GS 300 and GS 430 sharing accolades for mid luxury cars. Last year, Toyota ranked highest in seven segments.
