Grocery Chain WinCo Foods May Open Store in Lodi, Calif.

Jun. 3--WinCo Foods, a growing Idaho-based grocery chain, could soon build one of its sprawling stores in Lodi, a city planner said.

As tentatively sketched, it would be a 96,000-square-foot discount supermarket, about twice the size of a typical grocery, at the northwest corner of Kettleman Lane and Lower Sacramento Road, where Lowe's Cos. Inc. wants to build a home-improvement warehouse.

Konradt Bartlam, Lodi community development director, said late last week that city officials have met with WinCo representatives. No formal process is yet underway, however.
