New Dodge Ram Pickups, Ford Expedition Sport Utilities Fly off Lots in Texas.

Jun. 8--This is supposed to be the era of the mod-bod crossover: sport utilities with pickup beds, minivan SUVs, station-wagon SUVs and even convertible pickups.
But financially beleaguered DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor Co. are finding that the best vehicles for the trip back to profitability may still be a couple of big, traditional, stuff-hauling trucks: the new 2002 Dodge Ram pickup and 2003 Ford Expedition sport utility.
Both manufacturers have introduced their trucks in the last six months and both are watching happily as their 5,000-pound bruisers fly off dealers' lots in Texas, the truck segment's bellwether state. If the trucks' sales had stalled early in...
