Wal-Mart Celebrates New Number-One Status at Fayetteville, Ark., Meeting.

Jun. 8--FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.--Between celebrity introductions and other hoopla, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Friday projected a positive outlook for the remainder of the year during its first annual shareholders' meeting as the nation's largest company.
"Last year I wasn't as comfortable as I am today with the first six months of the year," president and chief executive Lee Scott said from Bud Walton Arena on the campus of the University of Arkansas. "We're encouraged with sales trends and increased profits."
Wal-Mart beat expectations in the first quarter with net income of $1.65 billion, or 37 cents a share, compared with net income of $1.38 billion, or 31 cents, in...
