Court Finds Texas Grocery Store Chain Not Liable in Defamation Suit.

Jun. 14--A Denton County woman lost a $325,000 judgment against Minyard Food Stores on Thursday when the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the grocery store chain was not liable for defamatory statements made by a store manager.
The court's ruling let stand the judgment against Les Heflin, the former manager of Minyard's Highland Village store.
Brenda K. Goodman sued Heflin, her former boss, and Minyard after Heflin told other employees in 1998 that he and Goodman had kissed and hugged and suggested they were having an affair.
A Denton County judge awarded Goodman $325,000 in damages. The 2nd Court of Appeals in Fort Worth upheld the lower court's...
