Gang Violence Puts Hitch in Rally Plans for Harley-Davidson Anniversary.

Jun. 16--CHICAGO--Deadly confrontations between rival motorcycle gangs have stalled plans for one of Harley-Davidson's 100th anniversary celebrations and prompted police to increase security at other motorcycle events.

Harley, which celebrates its centennial in 2003, announced a 10-city, international Open Road Tour this year but last month withdrew plans for a stop in Old Bridge, N.J., after local officials voiced fears that area gangs could ignite violence.

The festival was to be held Aug. 16 through 18 and attract up to 50,000 visitors daily. Township officials worried that rival gangs could renew their feud in their bedroom community of 60,000, which has a police force...
