Charlotte, N.C.-Based Steel Firm To Invest More Money in Jewett, Texas, Plant.

Jun. 27--Nucor Steel announced Wednesday it will invest another $100 million in its Jewett plant, located about 60 miles east of Waco in Leon County.

During a rain-soaked ceremony that Gov. Rick Perry attended, Nucor officials said the upgrade will increase its manufacturing capacity to 1 million tons of recycled steel per year.

"Today isn't just about Nucor," said Jim Darsey, vice president and general manager of the plant. "It is about Jewett and all of Leon County, because this entire area -- and much of Texas -- will see significant benefits from our expansion."

The project creates economic ripples in Waco, as well.
