Online Dating Services Draw Customers, Make Profits.

Jul. 1-- Becky Armstrong once scoffed at the idea of finding a soul mate on the Internet.

The Colorado Springs secretary scoffs no more. This summer, she'll tie the knot with Thom Skinner, a middle school band director from Illinois she met a year ago on EHarmony.com. She signed up for the online dating service on a lark with her housemates, figuring it was good for a laugh.

"If we met each other on the street, we probably wouldn't have been together," said Armstrong, 26, "because, as humans, we're all superficial and we go by appearances. Through the Internet, I got to know him from the inside out."
