Seattle City Light Will Test Using Time of Day as Basis for Rates.

Jul. 12--Seattle City Light will study using automated sensors to track when electricity is consumed as a basis for how much to charge for it.

A pilot program with commercial users could be the first test of the system.

A City Council committee yesterday passed a resolution requiring City Light to look at alternative rate structures, such as time of use. The resolution goes to the full council Monday, and committee chairwoman Heidi Wills said it should have no problem passing.
