Santa Clara, Calif.-Based Handheld Computer Maker Palm Allies Itself with IBM.

Jul. 23--Some of IBM's sales people will begin selling Palm handheld computers to business customers before the end of the year, adding credence to Palm's promise to become a stronger presence in large businesses.

The companies are expected to announce the agreement today. It is a big deal for Palm, the leading maker of handheld computers.

Competing mobile devices running Microsoft's Pocket PC software threaten to steal large business sales from Palm. Analysts expect large businesses to fuel sales of handheld devices when the economy rebounds.
