Study Says Use of Foreign Ships Makes U.S. Seaports Vulnerable to Attack.

Jul. 24--WASHINGTON -- The use of foreign-flagged ships to transport military equipment makes U.S. seaports more vulnerable to terrorist attacks, a General Accounting Office study has found.
The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, surveyed six strategic commercial ports and witnessed foreign-flagged ships with non-U.S. crew members being used to transport sensitive military equipment.
Among the cargo: Bradley Fighting Vehicles, 155 mm howitzers, machine guns and Blackhawk helicopters.
The Pentagon relinquishes control over its equipment when it's placed aboard foreign-owned ships, the GAO said in a brief report prepared for Congress....
