Chicago-Based Boeing Sees New Aircraft Attract Few Customers at Conference.

Jul. 27--FARNBOROUGH, England--The Sonic Cruiser is having some difficulty taking off.

The Boeing Co. unveiled the jet concept last spring as an answer to the gigantic A380 pitched by rival Airbus Industrie.

Now with the economy in the dumps and airline budgets in the red, Boeing finds itself with few likely customers and hedging on the future of the super-fast aircraft.

Boeing executives were constantly pressed for progress reports on the project at Farnborough International, one of the world's largest exhibitions of military and civilian aircraft.
