Lakewood, Wash., Shopping Center Gets Ready for Much-Anticipated Grand Opening.

Jul. 31--It's a few days before the new Lakewood Towne Center's grand opening.
A crane outside the shopping center is putting on the finishing touches, lowering a bright red sign into place. Shoppers are buzzing through the discount aisles of Ross Dress for Less, snapping up summer bargains. Inside Old Navy, a sales clerk whisks by to spruce up a display.
"You have a nice day," he says cheerfully.
This weekend's grand opening of Lakewood's new shopping center is a much-anticipated event. Civic leaders will strap themselves to Elvis impersonators and parachute out of a plane, landing at the shopping center. That's one of a long list of events...
