California Activists Plan to Commemorate Protests against Federal Laboratory.

Aug. 2--LIVERMORE, Calif.--California peace activists are calling their forces to a rally Saturday commemorating the major protests of the early 1980s and Lawrence Livermore Laboratory's 50th anniversary.

Spurred by changes in U.S. nuclear policy, the organizers say they are hoping for the largest protest since the end of the Cold War against Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, a major nuclear weapons research center.

"This year, it is particularly important that people who have a point of view that nuclear weapons... are endangering our security need to speak out," said Jacqueline Cabasso, executive director of Oakland-based Western States...
