Embattled Cablevision Takes Steps to Sell Channels, Dissolve Partnerships.

Aug. 6--It looks like cash-strapped Cablevision's getting ready to unload some of its cable channels and is searching for way to dissolve its partnerships with News Corp. in MSG and the Fox Sports channels.

Cablevision took the first step yesterday toward orchestrating a sale of movie classics channel AMC, Independent Film Channel, WE: Women's Entertainment, and Bravo -- the home of pompous celebrity talk show host James Lipton -- when officials said the company would buy the shares of its tracking stock Rainbow Media, which holds its cable networks.

"This gives them flexibility, it simplifies the process," said David Joyce, cable analyst at Guzman & Co....
