Residential Building Permits in Orange County, Calif., Up from 2001.

Aug. 8--On the heels of an unusually quiet year for construction permits, developers in Orange County are stepping forward with plans to build more new homes in 2002.
Through the first half of the year, developers obtained permits to build 5,538 houses, condominiums and apartments in the county, a 20 percent increase from the same period in 2001, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.
The jump speaks mostly to how sharply permitting activity fell in 2001. From the first half of 2000 to the first half of 2001, permits fell 42.2 percent.
