American Auto Makers Vow to Regain Lost Car Sales.

Aug. 8--TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.--Chrysler, Ford and General Motors now account for less than half of the new cars sold in the United States, their poorest showing since the 1920s.
While trucks continue to pour profits into the domestic companies, Detroit's share of the car-only market has sagged to 49.3 percent from 55 percent two years ago. Detroit auto executives, attending an annual auto industry conference Wednesday at Traverse City, described a push under way to regain lost car sales.
Eleven new models in the next three years, including the Pacifica tall station wagon, will help bring in car customers, said Chrysler President Dieter Zetsche.
