FCC to Require All New TV to Tune into Digital Broadcasts within Five Years.

Aug. 9--WASHINGTON -- All new televisions must be able to tune in digital broadcasts within five years under an order approved Thursday by the Federal Communications Commission.
Manufacturers said they would sue to stop the order, which they said would add $250 to the price of a new television.
FCC Chairman Michael Powell, who led the 3-1 majority of commissioners supporting the move, said others estimate the additional cost will be as little as $16, and he chastised the manufacturers' trade lobby for opposing the move.
