Sprint Offers Internet Connections via Mobile Phones.

Aug. 9--Sprint Corp. launched its next-generation wireless service Thursday, offering customers across the country the ability to check e-mail and surf the Internet using their mobile phones.
Sprint joins Verizon, which is gradually rolling out a similar service, on the cutting edge of what the telecommunications industry calls third-generation, or 3G, wireless. Sprint is the first company to offer the service from coast to coast.
The Sprint and Verizon services boast always-on wireless Internet connections at about the same speed as computers with dial-up modems. The cellular industry has been investing heavily in the new technology in hopes of stimulating...
