Wilmette, Ill., Park District Board Approves Deal to Buy Loyola Campus.

Aug. 13--The Wilmette Park District board Monday approved an agreement to buy the 17-acre Mallinckrodt campus from Loyola University for $20 million, with a closing date by Oct. 1.
Residents who successfully supported a $25 million bond referendum question in March to save the former convent site applauded the board's action. Supporters say the next hurdle is to find a developer to rehabilitate the building, possibly for senior housing.
"If the senior housing idea cannot be made to work, we still should look at all the options for saving the building," said organizer Lali Watt.
