Internet Necktie Retailer Scrambles to Survive After VeriSign Deactivates URL.

Aug. 15--Orange County necktie retailer Jeffrey Hunter normally sells hundreds of neckties a week from his Web site, www.abcneckties.com, so he knew something was wrong when he sold just one tie in two days recently.
Sure enough, Hunter found his Internet address had been deactivated by Mountain View-based VeriSign, with which he had registered his domain name, or URL. Hunter and VeriSign blame each other for the glitch, but the result is that Hunter is scrambling to hang onto his business.
The dispute comes as VeriSign is being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission for allegedly using deceptive practices to steal competitors' customers....
