Advanced Micro Devices to Launch Faster PC Processors.

Aug. 21--Advanced Micro Devices will launch two faster Athlon PC processors today, only to be eclipsed again by arch-rival Intel next week.
It's the latest leg in a long-running race by chip makers toward faster "clock speeds," the traditional measurement of how many instructions a computer chip can process per second. Clock speed is one major indicator of computing power but is increasingly not the only factor in performance.
AMD will unveil two new processors, the Athlon XP 2600plus and the Athlon XP 2400plus, which will be available in desktop PCs from major computer makers in September for the back-to-school shopping season. The AMD XP 2600plus...
