Advanced Micro Devices to Launch Faster PC Processors.

Aug. 21--Advanced Micro Devices will launch two faster Athlon PC processors today, only to be eclipsed again by arch-rival Intel next week.

It's the latest leg in a long-running race by chip makers toward faster "clock speeds," the traditional measurement of how many instructions a computer chip can process per second. Clock speed is one major indicator of computing power but is increasingly not the only factor in performance.
