Virginia Port Authority Loses Exemption from Business-Related Travel Policy.

Aug. 21--The Virginia Port Authority staff can no longer make business-related travel arrangements outside of state policy.
The port authority has had exempt status from the policy governing most other state employees since the mid-1990s. The exemption aimed to give port officials the flexibility to operate more like private industry when they courted business.
Gov. Mark R. Warner dropped the exemption as part of a clarification and enhancement of state travel policy outlined in a memorandum released last month.
