Norfolk, Va.-Area US Airways Employees Dodge Imminent Round of Cuts.

Aug. 22--US Airways employees in Hampton Roads have dodged an imminent round of layoffs -- at least so far -- but further plans for the sputtering carrier's local work force are still up in the air.

"We're waiting to see what's going to happen," said Sean Ryan, president of International Association of Machinists Local 2914, which represents about 80 US Airways employees at Norfolk International Airport. "People are definitely concerned."

The Arlington-based airline said Wednesday that it will cut about one-eighth of its daily schedule and ground one-tenth of its aircraft by the end of the year to lower costs as it reorganizes under bankruptcy...
