Internet Society Chairman Relieved to See Curbs on Federal Surveillance.

Aug. 27--Earlier this month, Fred Baker, a Cisco Systems senior engineer, was elected chairman of the Internet Society (www.isoc.org.) The global non-profit body, founded in 1991, manages Internet-standards groups, including the Internet Engineering Task Force, and provides a forum for educational and policy debates. ISOC has offices in Washington, D.C., and Geneva, Switzerland. Baker, 50, lives in Santa Barbara and spoke Friday with Mercury News Staff Writer Mary Anne Ostrom.
