Wind Turbine Plant in Pacific Northwest May Stall.

Aug. 27--A downturn in U.S. demand for wind turbines and an uncertain future for U.S. wind energy tax credits could delay Vestas Wind Systems' construction of a manufacturing plant in Portland or Washington state.
Late last week, the Danish company reported a sharp drop in earnings for the first six months of the year, leading to a 31 percent fall in its stock price on the Copenhagen exchange. The company attributed the poor performance primarily to flagging U.S. sales, which fell 91 percent from the same period last year.
