Georgia's Columbus Regional Healthcare Moves on Plan for Cancer Center.

Aug. 27--With the state's approval, Columbus Regional Healthcare System is moving ahead with its plan to build a new cancer center that officials say will allow them to improve the quality of patient care by consolidating and expanding services.
The Georgia Department of Community Health approved the $16.7 million project last week. The John B. Amos Cancer Center, which has been part of The Medical Center for more than a decade, will become a free-standing facility.
Columbus Regional expects to open the three-story, 49,620-square-foot center in July 2004 following 18 months of construction. It'll be located on 3.5 acres west of The Medical Center...
