Kentucky Panel to Hold New Public Hearing about Water Firm Acquisition.

Sep. 4--Although it's the second time around, the acquisition of Kentucky-American Water Co. will get "full and thorough consideration" by the state Public Service Commission, a PSC spokesman said yesterday.

That means there will be a new public hearing, with "the same cast of characters" intervening, said Andrew Melnykovych, the commission's communications director.

In May, the PSC approved the sale of Kentucky-American to RWE AG, a German utility conglomerate, in a rare 2-1 split vote.

The decision followed two days of hearings, and months of wrangling by opponents and supporters of the deal.
