Sep. 5--San Diego-based Lindows.com has partnered with Microtel Computer Systems to sell a personal computer for $199 one of the lowest price tags in the industry.

How can a new computer be so inexpensive? For one thing, it doesn't come with the Microsoft Windows operating system, which sells for about $199 itself.

Instead, the computers are based on the Linux computing platform and use the Lindows operating system. They are being sold on Walmart.com, the Web site of the Wal-Mart discount ...
