University of Florida President Touts Vision, Says He'll Bow Out.

Sep. 6--GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- University of Florida President Charles Young asked the board of trustees Thursday to begin looking for someone to replace him by the 2004-05 school year.
Young made the request at a meeting where he unveiled his design for boosting the 47,000-student campus to national greatness -- a program he said he would like to hang around long enough to implement.
The "Vision 10/20" strategic plan calls for new emphases on liberal arts and sciences, medicine, agriculture and engineering as core curricula. It also is a declaration that UF intends to step out from the pack of Florida's 11 public universities.
