Heavy-Equipment Maker to Move Tacoma, Wash., Manufacturing Operation to Canada.

Sep. 13--Weldco-Beales Manufacturing, a maker of heavy-equipment attachments, will close its manufacturing operation on the Tacoma Tideflats and move to facilities in Canada, the company announced.

The privately held Canadian firm employs some 40 people in Tacoma.

Sales and service divisions will remain in the area, Weldco-Beales comptroller Bill Knight said Thursday.

"We're not closing," he said. "We're simply moving our facility. It's not closing the plant."

Some manufacturing employees will be offered positions in Canada, Knight said.
